`guardutil` uses the `xdg-open` utility to find the appropriate application for opening source code for editing or graphs for viewing. On most desktops you can change the default applications it uses with the `xdg-mime` utility.

For instance, to set the default editor for python code:
```shell
$ xdg-mime query filetype IMC.py
text/x-python
$ xdg-mime query default text/x-python
gedit.desktop
$ xdg-mime default org.gnome.gedit.desktop text/x-python
$ xdg-mime query default text/x-python
org.gnome.gedit.desktop
```
You can try to find the .desktop file you're looking through by grep'ing through '/usr/share/applications/':
```shell
$ ls /usr/share/applications/ | grep emacs
emacs.desktop
emacs-term.desktop
``` |
\ No newline at end of file |
