MAINT: simplify the healpix distance pdf call

Colm Talbot requested to merge simplify-healpix-pdf into master

I noticed that we define a PDF and then don't use it in the next line. This MR just changes the code to use that to avoid the repeated definition of the distribution and make the code a little more readable.
