gnuscripts/generate_user_env.awk: strip trailing colons from paths

Description

  • Easiest to do this with sed, rather than having to code if empty? then set; else pre/append; fi conditionals in 3 different shells
  • Don't do this for variables which are simply set
  • Fixes #599 (closed)
