Drop dependence on glue

This MR drops all of the glue imports, and drops the ilwdchar format from the files used for unit tests.

Are there any tests we need to perform outside of the unit tests to be confident this works as expected @deep.chatterjee?

EDIT: Still working on getting the unit tests working.

EDIT 2: Fixed unit tests.
