show prior on 1D histogram plots

Charlie Hoy requested to merge show_prior_on_histogram_plots into master

The purpose of this MR is to fix a bug introduced in 8bb1c480 where the prior is plotted with histtype='step' (coming from _default_hist_kwargs) and edgecolor='w' meaning that it is not visible on the figure.
